Make It Happen Club – Design Brief Workshop

The Make it Happen Club is a club led and for young people based in Huddersfield who want to make good things happen. In their own words…

“We work together to find the things that motivate us and inspire us… which could be anything from planning our own social activities to spreading some joy in our local community.”

Design By If worked with the club and it’s members earlier this year to create a logo and promotional literature to promote their club and attract more members. The members created the concept of the design themselves and we helped them turn their ideas into reality. A couple of meetings were set up and the club members went through a typical design brief workshop. By the end a brief was created for Design By If to design A6 postcards as well as small stickers for the club to distribute at their forthcoming events.

The members of the club gained experience in project management, event management, event promotion, budgeting as well as getting an insight into what it takes to commission graphic design work.

We loved working with the group and hope they gained valuable experience that will help them in the years to come.

Here’s a quick peek at one of the postcards that were created for the group.

Pure Records Website Design and Build

We have worked with Pure Records since we set up in 2007 and have grown to know each other well. Read testimonial.

The Yorkshire based, family run record company needed a new website so asked us to take a look. The simple site would be a means by which they could spread news about their artists, plans and developments.

A very personalised design was developed, based on their homely and distinctive work space. A shelf and window scene forms the basis of the sites structure. On the homepage the window displays news on any current artist or event, on all other pages the window disappears and the shelf below takes centre stage.

There are a set of different shelf scenes throughout the site displaying relevant items to each page. Each shelf contains an item or two representing a member of the team or an artist. This way everyone left their mark as they do in any workspace!

Items to look out for are, a Yorkshire Tea teapot, a cricket ball, a dogs lead, a Daisy, a sound desk, microphones, guitar strings and even a dinosaur.

Susans design work case studied in Rotovision’s book ‘Creating Great Graphic Design To A Budget’

We are proud to announce that Susans design work has been case studied in RotoVision’s latest publication “Creating Great Graphic Design to a Budget” by Scott Witham. We are delighted to have work featured in the book alongside such giants as WPA Pinfold, Music and Traffic.  If you’d like to buy a copy for yourself you can find it here!

“Creating Great Graphic Design To A Budget is a sourcebook of ideas for creating first-rate designs on minimal budgets. It reveals innovative and unexpected ways for designers to cut the costs, but not lose on the quality of their designs. An international showcase of eyecatching and memorable campaigns – all created on tight budgets shows how successful these ideas and techniques can be.

Good designers know that the value of their work is not necessarily tied to it’s production cost. A good idea is a good idea regardless of what money is then thrown at it. Large print budgets can enhance a good idea but they cannot hide a bad one. A great idea will shine, even with a reduced budget “

Here’s a few words about the Author Scott Witham.

“A designer with more than 15 years of agency experience, Scott Witham founded Traffic Design Consultants, where he now works as Creative Director, in 2002. This is his fourth book following Festive Graphics: the art and design of self-promotion (2002), Touch This: graphic design that feels good (2005), and Print and Production Finishes for Promotional Items (2007).”

Soupa Creative Network is a creative network of mainly illustrators, but also some designers and photographers based in London. We’ve been a member since 2009 and made an autumnal banner illustration for them back in 2010. Here it is in all it’s coziness 🙂
